Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride 2019
This year the Meccanica team decided to forego Manchester and head out-country to join the 200 registered riders for the Derbyshire DGR.
All was well until the Met Office Weather Warnings loomed for Derbyshire only to be side-tracked by a meagre 50% chance of light rain from the BBC weather app.
Of course the heavens opened en-route to the start just past Buxton and didn’t let up until home at 4:00PM – 5 hours later. We even had to turn around on the way to the start as the Tissington ford was well in flood. The route was well planned taking in some normally panoramic views on the route between the Knockerdown Inn and The Greyhound at Warslow, via the Square and Compass in Matlock. Unfortunately the route became famous for its views of mist, flooded roads and river crossings.
Nearly 100 hardy (foolhardy?) souls turned up to dampen the tweed and over £18,500 was raised for the day – an excellent result. Some great bikes and sidecar units included BSA’s Norton’s, a mad Kawasaki and the usual Italian exotica. All the very best to Steve Williamson and team for an extremely well organised event.
